Recording – Paving the way to Integrative Oncology: Essentials for Integration into Clinical Practice - Conference

Over the last 2 decades, integrative oncology (IO) has seen exponential growth combining evidence-based complementary therapies with conventional treatments to improve the well-being and quality of life for individuals with cancer. Led by members of the Society for Integrative Oncology’s (SIO) Clinical Practice Committee (CPC), this workshop focuses on how to translate the essential components necessary for developing an IO program with a focus on the tools critical for creating a successful IO consultation (building from the committee’s published article in 2024). In addition to reviewing how a comprehensive and unified IO based care plan can develop from multidisciplinary and globally diverse perspectives.

Recording – Oncology Massage Therapy: Enhancing Patient Care Through Safe, Evidence-Based Touch - Conference

As integrative care becomes an essential component of oncology treatment, healthcare professionals are seeking evidence-based therapies that support patient well-being while complementing medical interventions. Oncology massage therapy is a specialized form of therapeutic touch designed to safely address the unique needs of cancer patients, providing relief from pain, fatigue, anxiety, and treatment side effects. This workshop will equip medical professionals, integrative care practitioners, and licensed massage therapists with the knowledge and tools to incorporate oncology massage into patient care plans and healthcare settings. Participants will explore the latest peer-reviewed research on the benefits of oncology massage therapy, understand critical safety considerations, and learn strategies for integrating massage into a multidisciplinary care model.

Recording – Practicing the New Healthcare Intelligence in Oncology: Neuro-somatic, Noetic medicine and Holistic Care in action - Conference

This is a practical, experiential workshop of neuro-somatic, noetic medicine and mental health/intelligence principles and practices as they apply to work with oncology patients and care providers. The new healthcare model recognizes that disease is not an identity or permanence but rather a dynamic process involving the mind, body, and social realities. This holistic approach encourages the integration of mental, emotional, and physical healing, recognizing that the body is not a thing but a process. This workshop provides evidence for and scientific rational and practices to bridge the gap by learning to effectively apply holistic care in your clinic and life.

Recording – Oncology Acupuncture 101: Guideline-Based Foundations and Safety Strategies - Conference

This workshop, Oncology Acupuncture 101: Guideline-Based Foundations and Safety Strategies, offers a comprehensive introduction to the integration of acupuncture into oncology care. Hosted at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI), a leader in cancer care and research, and supported by SIO Acupuncture SIG, the session is designed for acupuncturists as well as other integrative oncology professionals, including oncologists, nurses, and allied health providers. By broadening its scope, the workshop aims to equip participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to integrate acupuncture into multidisciplinary cancer care teams and improve referral pathways. The first half of the session provides foundational knowledge on oncology acupuncture, including its evidence-based applications for managing symptoms such as pain, chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN), and hot flashes. Presenters will review major integrative oncology guidelines (ASCO, SIO, NCCN) and discuss how acupuncture complements conventional cancer treatments. Specific attention will be given to safety protocols, including lab value interpretation and infection control, ensuring that all participants understand how to safely refer or administer acupuncture in complex oncology settings. The second half emphasizes experiential learning through interactive breakout sessions.

Recording – Synergy in Cancer Care: Strategies for Dietary Supplement Assessment in Patients with Cancer - Conference

Patients with cancer are increasingly looking to incorporate dietary supplement use for mitigation of adverse effects or for their purported anti-cancer properties. Dietary supplements, when combined with cancer therapy, should be evaluated to determine potential risks or interactions by informed health care providers. We propose to conduct a 105-minute workshop to advise clinicians and pharmacists on strategies that will improve decision-making regarding assessment of safety and integration of dietary supplements in cancer care. The workshop will commence with background information and firsthand experience provided by oncology clinicians regarding the use of dietary supplements concurrently with cancer therapy. Following the introduction, experienced integrative medicine pharmacists will discuss the utilization of various tools and resources for assessing the efficacy and safety of dietary supplements. Following this didactic portion of the workshop, the presenters will facilitate breakout sessions where participants will be assigned cases and be asked to identify drug-supplement interactions and any supplement-disease or supplement-laboratory concerns. The interactive portion of the workshop will be followed by a discussion session.
