The 14th International Conference of the Society for Integrative Oncology (SIO) will be held November 12-14, 2017 in Chicago, Illinois, USA. The theme is "Person-Centered Care in Integrative Oncology." The SIO Conference is the gathering place for clinicians, researchers, patients, advocates and trainees in integrative cancer care from all over the world. The Conference will provide an opportunity for attendees to hear about advancements made in the field, present their research findings, build collaborations, and learn from each other. The program includes keynotes, plenary sessions, moderated panels, workshops, and oral and poster presentations of research findings. There will be informal time for gathering, including a welcome reception and a conference dinner. Visit the conference website for more information.

Abstracts for oral and poster presentations that represent the broad spectrum of integrative cancer research (basic, clinical, health care utilization, cost effectiveness, program and best practice guideline development) and clinical care are welcomed. In keeping with the conference theme, individuals submitting abstracts are encouraged to consider the person-centered care factors of their work and its relevance to integrative cancer care.

Evaluation Criteria: Members of the Abstract Review Committee will evaluate the quality of the submitted abstracts on the basis of the following criteria:

  • Novelty of the research
  • Significance of the findings
  • Clarity
  • Relevance to the conference theme

Authors should be particularly cognizant of the importance of setting forth the objectives and hypotheses/research questions of the study in a clear, succinct manner and of summarizing the results (if applicable). If the abstract is poorly written, such that the Abstract Review Committee cannot determine its novelty and importance, the abstract will not be accepted for presentation at the Conference.

The abstract should comply with the ethics of scholarly activities in general and should be free of commercial bias. The authors must disclose conflicts of interest as required by continuing education accreditation bodies.

Authors must indicate whether the abstract material has been presented at other scientific meetings. Abstracts previously presented at another scientific meeting are eligible to be selected for poster or oral presentation, but are not eligible for the “Best of SIO” designation. If the research has been accepted for publication or has been recently published, it is the author’s responsibility to comply with the journal’s copyright rules.

Abstract Submission Number: An Abstract Submission Number will be assigned to each abstract. This number will be displayed at the top of the submitter screen and will be listed on all e-mail correspondence regarding the abstract. Please refer to the Abstract Submission Number in any subsequent abstract communications.

Editing and Notification: Authors are strongly encouraged to print a copy of their abstracts for their records before submitting. At the time of submission, an email will be sent to the corresponding author at the address provided in the SIO Abstract Submission System. In addition, once the abstract deadline, 11:59 pm U.S. Eastern Time on May 10 has passed, a confirmation of receipt will be sent to the presenting authors of all valid abstracts. Notifications of abstract status will be sent by early July 2017. Once an abstract has been submitted, it may be edited or withdrawn via the SIO Abstract Submission System using the Abstract Submission Number and the password that was supplied at the time of submission.

Accuracy: The accuracy of the submitted abstract is the responsibility of the authors. Although abstracts will be typeset for print and electronic distribution, they will not be edited for typographical errors or corrected by SIO staff except as needed to conform to publication style. Therefore, authors should carefully prepare and proofread their abstracts prior to submission.

If you have completed an abstract submission, you may log in and edit the abstract as often as you wish until the submission deadline. However, once abstract submission is closed, no additional changes will be accepted.
